What Wattage do I Need?
One of the most common questions we get asked is what size generator do I need?
An easy way to work out the best wattage for you is to identify the wattage requirements for the tools and appliances that you want to power concurrently.
The power requirement for the tool or appliance can normally be found on its identification plate or in the owners manual (If it is given in amps, multiply the amps by volts to get the watt value).
This final value give you an idea of what power you will be drawing. One thing to bear in mind is the starting load. An 800W Microwave for example will draw 1600W when it starts up before settling to 800w after a few seconds (this is where the peak power of a generator comes in to play to cope with these).
If you are just looking at using your generator for recharging your leisure batteries whilst still having enough power for some lighting and tv then the Kipor IG770 will cope well with this. As soon as you start looking at running microwaves or hairdryers you get in to the range of the Kipor IG2000 and above.
How loud are they?
The Kipor generators are rated at 54 - 59 Dba. To give you an idea normal conversation is rated at 60 Dba, so these generators are fairly quiet running.
So why is there this sticker that says 92Db on my unit?
This is due to new EU measure that say we now have to have things rated in sound pressure (Db) as oppose to Dba. The industry standard for measuring noise of portable equipment has always been the decibel level at 7m, the new sound pressure is tested at 1m. 92Db equates to approximately 58dba @ 7m.
Why choose Kipor over a Honda?
We sell both the Honda models and the Kipor models, so have experience with both. Many people are worried about the reliability of a Chinese produced product (but we bet you have an Iphone or similar in your pocket?) It is very rare that we ever get any serious issues provided they are serviced reguarly and looked after they should last an extremely long time.
The Honda is marginally quieter 52 - 57 Dba compared to Kipors' 54 - 59 Dba, in terms of size the Honda is only 10mm smaller and only arguably better manufactured, but is it worth over twice the price? That is for you to decide. We will gladly sell you a Honda as well.
Didn't Kipor go bust/is it really just a Honda/Only old stock etc.
Due to the unfortunate nature of the internet, there is a lot of misinformation out there. Honda did try to get them out of the market and tried to sue them, this was only partially successful in 2004 (some might say that the fact Honda attempted this shows how much of a rival they are). We can assure you the company is up and running, just check their website at http://www.kipor.com/ (they are not a small company) they produce all their own components and we order our stock directly so it is always new.
